Sowing the Seeds of Summer: The Mango Growth Experiment (Also Me)

Lately, I've rekindled my love for gardening, specifically growing trees,  finding sheer fascination in the process of cultivating fruits from their seeds. It's a simple yet entrancing concept: I carefully select the most flavorful fruits, extract their seeds, and embark on a journey of selective breeding to create homegrown delicacies. As I observe the seeds metamorphosing into saplings, I'm struck by the incredible cycle of life unfolding before my very eyes.

It's undeniably remarkable how a minuscule seed, planted with meticulous care, can evolve into a magnificent tree that bears luscious fruits for years to come. The sheer patience and determination inherent in this process, where a tree takes years to produce a single fruit, a delicacy we savor in mere moments, continues to astound me. And then, that very same small seed holds the promise of growing into a towering, grand tree all over again.

My most recent experiment revolves around mangoes, those delightful summer treasures that bring pure joy to our taste buds. I've chosen four plump mangoes, gently extracting their seeds. For the first seed, I've adopted a protective approach, planting it in a pot and carefully curving it downward, using a bottle to maintain optimal humidity. The second seed has experienced the magic of the paper towel germination method – I dampened the towel, sealed it in a zip-lock bag, and placed it atop my trusty refrigerator. The third seed followed the same paper towel technique, but with a twist – after a week of nurturing, it was gently nestled into the soil. As for the fourth seed, I've opted to bypass the intermediate steps, planting it directly into the soil, eager to witness how Mother Nature takes its course.

The objective of this intriguing experiment is to uncover the most efficient and effective means of cultivating mangoes within the comfort of our homes. As an ardent mango enthusiast, the prospect of nurturing these succulent delights at home fills me with eager anticipation. With any luck, within the next 2-4 weeks, I will bear witness to the results of my experiment, and I'm thrilled at the prospect of sharing this captivating journey with the wider world.
